Is this for you?
Fitness level: medium–higher
Several consecutive days of skiing while managing a loaded pulk, building to the overnight. A genuine step up from a single day out — a good baseline of fitness and comfort in the cold and on skis helps.
Skill level: building
You arrive with some outdoor experience and leave with a real overnight-in-snow skill set — camp setup, pulk management, and reading the trail alongside a husky.
Built for exactly this format
Terrain built for pulk teamwork. Varied, forgiving trails around Pallas–Ylläs let you build real pulk-handling skill in stages, day by day.
Dogs raised for this exact job. Our huskies are trained specifically for pulk work and matched carefully to each guest.
A guided way to learn overnight camping. A supported first overnight in the snow, led by Ciara and Susi, who camp out here themselves every winter.
Accommodation & food
Accommodation
Three nights at a warm private base in Äkäslompolo, plus one night at the overnight camp you help set up yourselves. Base cabin + guided snow camp.
Food
All meals included, including the camp meal you prepare together as part of the overnight skills. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available — just let us know.
Your four days
Day 1 — Meet your dog & your pulk. Matched to your husky, fitted for your pulk, and out on a short trail to find your balance together.
Day 2 — Build your ski legs. A longer day on varied terrain, working the load with your dog and building real endurance.
Day 3 — Learn to camp. Pack, ski to the site, and build your own overnight camp in the snow with Ciara and Susi’s guidance.
Day 4 — Ski back & debrief. A morning ski back to base, warm food, and a group debrief on what you’ve each learned.
What to know
Questions guests ask
No. This retreat is a ski-and-pulk format — a husky is harnessed in to help share the load with you as a team, not to pull a sled with you riding behind.
The dog shares the load with you as a team — this is a genuine partnership, taught as a skill, rather than the dog pulling the full weight alone.
Yes — a real overnight camp in the snow, fully guided and equipped, and the whole point of the retreat’s final day.
Yes — groups stay small (6 max, women only) and most guests arrive solo, ready to build these skills alongside new people.
Ciara and Susi guide and camp out here every winter and choose the site and timing accordingly — safety calls are made on the day, with a warm base always within reach.
It’s not required, but this retreat is pitched a step up in fitness and skill — some snowshoeing, skiing, or a day like our Husky Trail Walk first helps you get the most from it.
