Is this for you?

Fitness level: medium

You’ll be on the trail for 3–4 hours at a guided pace, walking or snowshoeing over snow-packed terrain. No running, no technical skill needed — just a good baseline of fitness and comfort in the cold.

Skill level: beginner

No experience with huskies, hiking, or snowshoeing required. Most guests have never worked with a dog like this before — that’s exactly who this day is built for.

Why Pallas–Ylläs makes this possible

A real national park trail. Pallas–Yllästunturi is Finland’s most-visited national park, and one of the few places where the terrain and permits allow this waist-harness hiking format.

Dogs trained for this exact walk. Ciara and Susi train and care for our huskies year-round, specifically for waist-harness work rather than sledding.

Genuinely quiet trails. Away from the busier sledding routes — most days it’s your small group, your huskies, and the national park.

Your day, hour by hour

husky puppy team in lapland finland

Morning — Meet the team. Fitted for your harness, introduced to your husky, and briefed on how the connection between you actually works.

Midday — Find your rhythm. A few hours on the trail through Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park, guided pace, plenty of stops to reset and take photos.

Afternoon — Warm up together. Hot drinks by the fire and time with the dogs off-harness before you head back — the day ends slow and unhurried.

What to know

Questions guests ask

Do you offer dog sledding?

No. Husky Trail Walk is a hiking and snowshoeing format — the husky’s harness clips to your own waist, and you move together on foot, not behind a sled.

Do I need any experience?

None. This is a medium fitness-level walk at a guided pace — most guests have never worked with a husky before.

Can I book alone, or only in a group?

Solo travellers are very welcome. Groups stay small — 6 guests max — whether you arrive alone, as a pair, or with friends.

What happens if the weather turns?

We keep the day running by switching to a trail suited to the conditions — Ciara and Susi guide here year-round and know exactly which ones hold up.

Is this safe for the dog?

Yes — our huskies are trained, rested, and cared for specifically for this waist-harness format, and matched to you individually for the day.

How do I get there?

Pickup and transfer from Äkäslompolo is included — just meet us in the village and we’ll take care of the rest.

Guided personally by Ciara & Susi, year-round residents of Äkäslompolo. Ciara has spent years guiding multi-day husky expeditions, and Susi has spent over two decades working as a veterinary technician with huskies — read more about them on our Who We Are page.
